Students on rampage in Kolkata varsity, heckle Bengal education minister
KOLKATA: Demanding immediate declaration of student union elections, Left-wing student union members went on a rampage at Jadavpur University Saturday, heckling Bengal education minister Bratya Basu, ransacking his meeting venue, damaging his car, thrashing professors and setting fire to a university staff office, reports Poulami Roy.
Basu, who was at the university to address annual general meet of TMC-aligned WBCUPA, tried to reason with the students but they were in no mood to listen. A student fell in front of the minister's car & suffered severe injuries. Ex-IR professor Om Prakash Mishra, also a former VC, was also manhandled by a group of students.
