Stir over Hardwar called off

dehra dun: the nine-day-old agitation by the hardwar bachao sangharsh samiti demanding separation of hardwar from uttaranchal has been called off, convener of the samiti has said. the agitation has been called off following an appeal by union agriculture minister ajit singh, convener ambrish kumar said on the telephone from mangalore. the delhi-dehra dun national highway, which remained blocked for more than a week, has been reopened to traffic, director-general of police ashok kant sharan said wednesday night.meanwhile, the situation in mangalore, the scene of tuesday's clash between policemen and agitators demanding separation of hardwar district from uttaranchal in which one person was killed and 20 were injured, was fast returning to normal, official sources said.
