MUMBAI: NCP minister Nawab Malik is one candidate who has incurred the wrath of both Shiv Sena and Samajwadi Party (SP). Both the parties want to defeat Malik in the coming elections. Malik, who deserted SP and defected to NCP, is seeking re-election from Nehru Nagar constituency which has huge housing board colonies cheek-by-jowl with fast breeder slums.

In order to defeat him, the SP is even toying with the idea of fielding former star Sridevi against him. "Our general secretary Amar Singh is in touch with her," Nasir Jamal, senior SP leader told TNN on Tuesday.
The Sena is angry with Malik because it feels that he has considerably weakened the party in the constituency, where more than 50% of the 2.11 lakhs voters are lower middle class Maharashtrians. In the 1996 assembly byelection, Malik defeated Sharad Acharya of the Sena by an impressive margin and he has not looked back ever since then.
