Sports seems to be limping in the land of ‘Khela Hobe’
NEW DELHI: Khela Hobe’ roughly translates to ‘the game is on’. In the bitterly fought assembly polls of West Bengal, it is also a political battle cry. Walls across the state are awash with images of TMC supremo and CM Mamata Banerjee with her plastered left leg on a football. Rivals BJP and the Left Front have also twisted and adopted ‘Khela Hobe’ in their own ways. But what exactly is the ground reality of ‘khela’ or sports in Bengal, once a sporting powerhouse?
