Panaji: Goa signed the host city contract so long ago that it’s easy to forget that Suresh Kalmadi was then the president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
It was with great fanfare that Kalmadi, later arrested for the Commonwealth Games scam, and Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat, inked the contract in 2008. Since then, the IOA has had seven presidents while the state has seen three chief ministers with Pramod Sawant finally getting the Games over the line during his second stint in office.
