Most of the earthquakes cause insignificant damage. given their unpredictability, however, risks cannot be ruled out in high risk zones like Delhi

More than a dozen low-intensity earthquakes have jolted the Delhi-NCR region during the lockdown months. For the fear they strike, quakes are remarkably frequent and the planet records hundreds of thousands of them every year. While the majority of them cause insignificant damage, given their unpredictability and destructive potential, the risks can never be ruled out, especially for parts of India, including Delhi, that sit in high risk zones.

HOW FREQUENTLY DO THEY OCCUR? QUITE..
According to the US Geological Survey, there are about 500,000 “detectable earthquakes” around the world each year. Of these, about 100,000 are such as can be felt while around 100 are of the kind that cause damage. About 100,000 each year means more than 250 daily, and these are only the ones that can be felt. The greatest magnitude of the quakes in and around the national capital region recently was of magnitude 4 on the Richter scale.
