Several speakers openly attacked the attitude of the chief minister and said the convention would pave the way for a new revolution in the state.
Though the convention was named after JP and a number of non-political organizations were involved, it was a show of strength by JD(S) against the ruling BJP in the hometown of chief minister Yeddyurappa. Political heavyweights of the party lead by Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy, Bangarappa and Anita Kumaraswamy were present at the convention along with their MLAs and former ministers. But none of the political leaders shared the dais with Doreswamy to exhibit that the convention was apolitical. They chose to sit with the crowd.
CM Yeddyurappa who took part in the programme at Sagar, launched several developmental programs and promised the people of the area that he would pay more attention to fulfilling the needs of the people. He promised to initiate immediate action to provide funds for providing permanent drinking water to the town and to construct a long-pending work for a bridge across Sharavathi backwater area. Yeddyurappa, a tad annoyed at the JD(S) convention at Shimoga, told the party leaders that they had no support from the public.
