NEW DELHI: Two Naxalites were in an encounter with security forces on Monday in Gariaband district, Chhattisgarh, according to police. The gunfight took place in a forest area under Mainpur police station, near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, during an anti-Naxal operation, a police official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The bodies of the two Naxalites were recovered from the scene, the official added.
With this incident, the total number of Naxalites killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh this January has reached 28.
Earlier, on January 16, security forces killed 12 Naxalites in Bijapur district.
In 2024, security forces neutralised a total of 219 Naxals in separate encounters across Chhattisgarh, officials had reported.
