NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the Centre's response to a PIL on behalf of hundreds of Nepali migrant workers, stuck in Uttarakhand, seeking relaxation of stringent lockdown spurred ban on all kinds of transportation means to enable them go back to home country.

told a bench of Justices N V Ramana,

Sanjay Kishan Kaul

and B R Gavai that Nepal Supreme Court has already directed the Nepal

government

to take steps to bring back Nepali migrant labour from India.

Solicitor general

Tushar Mehta

said that there was a lockdown even in Nepal. The bench asked Gonsalves that the

Uttarakhand HC

was approached for relief to over 900 Nepali migrant workers stuck in the state. But, the HC said that it would not be appropriate to direct the Centre at present to relax the lockdown to facilitate back home journey of Nepali workers.

When SC sought the government's response, Solicitor general Tushar Mehta said he would get back to court with instructions from the Centre on Tuesday.
