Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik dedicates his latest sculpture to Mother Teresa
NEW DELHI: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has dedicated his latest sculpture to Mother Teresa who will be canonized on Sunday.
Sudarsan's sculpture also carries the text, "A tribute to saint Mother Teresa". After her canonization at Vatican City on Sunday, Mother Teresa will be christened a saint.
Mother Teresa's work with the dying and the destitute made her an icon of 20th Century Christianity. She worked with the poorest of the poor in Kolkata for nearly four decades, having initially come to eastern India as a missionary teacher with Ireland's Loreto order.
Sudarsan has participated in more than 50 international championships and festivals and won many prizes for the country. He tries to give social messages through his sculptures. He has also received the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in 2014.
He recently won People’s Choice Award for his sand sculpture made during an international championship in Russia. The art -- ‘Mahatma Gandhi sculpture for non-violence and peace’ -- was created in the contest in Moscow in April this year.
