NEW DELHI: Sahara chief Subrata Roy wilfully submitted himself before the Lucknow police as he is a law abiding citizen, his son said on Friday.
Addressing a hurriedly convened news conference, Smanto R Roy, executive director of Sahara India Pariwar, said his father was cooperating “wholeheartedly” with authorities in order to ensure compliance with the direction given by the Supreme Court.

“Subrata Roy Sahara to me is not only a doting father but also a patriotic son of the soil who has contributed immensely to the country in many ways ...,” Roy said detailing the several social initiatives undertaken by Subrata Roy.
“Today it pains me to see his reputation and image being maligned in this manner and I humbly seek your support and cooperation,” Roy said.
He said the company had always put the nation ahead of any business interest and ensured compliance with the law of the land.
“We are fighting an ongoing long legal battle and are confident that it will arrive to its logical conclusion soon. Having started the above as a responsible business organization with a high level of discipline and ethics, we are committed to abide by the law of the land as we have been practicing always,” Roy stated, adding that vested interests were creating misconceptions.
