MUSSOORIE: Leaving Mussoorie's serene and picturesque Landour neighbourhood shocked, robbers broke into renowned author Stephen Alter's house and stabbed him and his wife, Ameeta, before slipping away with valuables on Thursday.
"Four robbers entered Alter's house, posing as carpenters, around 5am on Thursday. They tied and then stabbed them four times each," SSP Amit Kumar Sinha said, adding the couple was admitted to the hospital and is out of danger.
Sinha said the Alters were expecting carpenters and that is why robbers managed to get an entry into the house near the famous Woodstock School.
"The thieves took away some gold rings and money," he said, adding, "A police team from Dehradun has reached the scene of crime along with a dog squad to investigate the crime." He said police have got some vital clues and that some people have been detained for questioning.
Alter recently joined Woodstock School as academic director. He came back to Landour from the US last year to settle down here. Alter, cousin of renowned actor, Tom Alter, is the author of four novels and four works of nonfiction, all of which are set in India.
