RG Kar victim's father seeks further probe into rape-murder
New Delhi: RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim's father Friday moved SC for continuation of CBI probe into the crime, in which accused Sanjay Roy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, to unravel possible roles of other accused who allegedly aided and abetted commission of the offence.
Senior advocate Karuna Nundy mentioned the father's application for urgent hearing before a bench of CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar for ordering CBI to continue further investigation monitored by Calcutta HC even after conviction of the sole accused. The bench, which is seized of the case that SC had taken up suo motu, agreed to list the plea for hearing soon.
The father had filed a writ petition before Calcutta HC for this, but it asked him to seek a clarification from SC on whether HC could proceed with hearing on the writ petition despite SC being seized of the matter.
He relied on the chargesheet filed by CBI in the case on Oct 17 last year in which it stated "acts/omissions on part of Abhijit Mondal, then SHO Tala police station, and Sandip Ghosh, then principal of R G Kar MC&H, with regard to attempt to hush up the matter, destruction of evidence have surfaced and both of them have been arrested and presently, are in judicial custody". The father said that no supplementary chargesheet was filed after 90 days and they were granted bail on Dec 13 last year.
