Retd cop runs over puppy 4 times, says he is hard of hearing, didn’t hear cries

MEERUT: A 72-year-old retired SI of UP Police was detained and later released on Monday, a day after a video surfaced on X allegedly showing him running over a puppy four times in Bulandshahr. The video gained traction after TMC MP Mahua Moitra reshared it. The CCTV footage shows a man driving a car over a 35-day-old puppy multiple times. A neighbour, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the puppy died on the spot.

Moitra tagged Bulandshahr police and urged action against the accused, Sukhveer Singh. She also shared his contact details, and car registration number. Police registered an FIR against Singh under the Animal Cruelty Act and detained him, but he was later released.


“The accused retired from UP Police in 2015. He claimed he has a hearing problem and did not hear the puppy’s cries. He said he was reversing the car with the mirrors closed. However, we’re probing whether it was intentional,” said a cop.
