NEW DELHI: The Delhi chief minister's Office (CMO) on Thursday announced that its official X handle, which was "not properly handed over" by the outgoing AAP government, has now been restored to the new BJP-led administration of Rekha Gupta.
The controversy erupted last month after the handle was renamed "KejriwalAtWork" following the BJP’s victory in the February 5 assembly elections. The BJP, which won 48 of the 70 seats, accused former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of "hijacking" the official account and sought Lt Governor VK Saxena’s intervention.
In a statement on X, the Rekha Gupta-led CMO said, "The previous government had not handed over the @CMODelhi handle properly. As per X’s rules, this handle is now under the Chief Minister's Office and will share official updates."
Earlier, the CMO had formally requested X to restore control of the handle. Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded legal action against Kejriwal for allegedly misusing an official government account.
AAP leader Atishi defended the renaming, arguing that X’s policies and legal guidelines determine account ownership.
