Red Fort blast: Was Hyundai i-20 car parked at Al-Falah University for over 10 days? What Faridabad police said
NEW DELHI: The Faridabad Police on Wednesday issued an official clarification denying media and social media reports claiming that the suspicious i20 car involved in the Red Fort blast had been parked at Al-Falah Hospital or University in Dhauj for several days.
In a statement, the police spokesperson said, “It has come to notice that some media channels and social media platforms are circulating reports claiming that the suspicious i20 car, which exploded in front of the Red Fort in Delhi, had been parked at Al-Falah Hospital/University in Dhauj for the past 10–11 days. Faridabad Police does not confirm this information officially and refutes this news.”
Meanwhile, Al-Falah University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Bhupinder Kaur Anand on Wednesday released a statement expressing concern over the ongoing investigation into the Red Fort blast case, following reports that two university doctors had been detained by investigating agencies.
The statement reads, “We are anguished by the unfortunate developments that took place and condemn the same... We have also learnt that two of our doctors have been detained by the Investigating Agencies. The University has no connection with the said persons apart from them working in their official capacities with the University... We strongly condemn and categorically deny all such false and defamatory allegations. No such chemical or material, as alleged by certain platforms, is being used, stored, or handled within the University premises. The University laboratories are used solely and exclusively for the academic and training requirements of MBBS students and other authorised courses... The University is extending its full cooperation to the concerned investigating authorities to enable them to arrive at a logical, fair, and conclusive determination in the matter pertaining to national security...”
A high-intensity blast in a parked Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening left 12 people dead and several vehicles charred.
The explosion triggered a fire that quickly spread to nearby cars. The incident occurred near Gate Number 1 of the station, the Delhi Fire Department told news agency ANI. "Eight of them died before reaching the hospital," Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital's medical superintendent told news agency ANI.
Videos shared by the Chandni Chowk Traders’ Association captured the scale of the explosion. One clip showed a body lying on a vehicle, while another appeared to show a body on the road. Eyewitnesses said human remains were visible near the site of the blast."
Six cars, two e-rickshaws and one autorickshaw were gutted in the fire," fire department official told PTI.
