Ramoji film city founder and media mogul Ramoji Rao passes away at 87

NEW DELHI: Ramoji Rao, the founder of Ramoji film city and head of ETV network, passed away during the early hours of Saturday at Star Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana. Rao, aged 87, died at 3.45am while receiving medical care.

PM Narendra Modi condoled the demise of Rao and recalled his "rich contributions" to the country's media scene.

In a tweet on X, PM Modi said, "The passing away of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world."


"Ramoji Rao Garu was extremely passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have got several opportunities to interact with him and benefit from his wisdom. Condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers during this difficult time. Om Shanti", he added.

Condoling the death, Senior BJP leader G Kishan Reddy posted on X "Saddened by the passing of Shri Ramoji Rao garu. His remarkable contributions to Telugu media and journalism is commendable. My deepest condolences to his family members. Om Shanti"


Ramoji Rao, was an entrepreneur, film producer, and businessman. He led the Ramoji Group, which encompassed various ventures, including Ramoji Film City, recognized as the world's largest film production facility. The group also owned Eenadu newspaper, ETV Network of TV channels, and Usha Kiran Movies, a film production company.

The renowned entrepreneur and media mogul has played a significant role in the Indian entertainment and media landscape through his pioneering ventures.
