Interestingly, senior functionary Digvijaya Singh collected the nomination form from the AICC office on Thursday and announced that he will file the papers.
As the race was thrown open, Congress was finalising a replacement candidate for Gehlot, with Mallikarjun Kharge, a senior Dalit leader, as the lead contender.
There was suspense over the election for the post of Congress president on Thursday as frontrunner and Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot apologised to Sonia Gandhi and announced that he will not contest for the top job.
