Rail officials, contractor booked for Dhanbad power-line deaths

DHANDBAD: A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been lodged against rail authorities, Rail Vikash Nigam Ltd (RVNL) officials and a contractor over the electrocution of six workers on Monday while laying poles along the tracks near Jharkhand's Dhanbad, reports Anil Ashutosh.

A four-member team of the East Central Railway (ECR) is scheduled to arrive here Wednesday for a probe, sources said. "The case has been lodged under Sections 304A (death by negligence), 285 (negligence), and 34 (common intention in a criminal act) of the IPC against the deputy manager of the RVNL and site in-charge of contract firm Sika Engineering Pvt Ltd, among others," sub-inspector of Ramkanali police outpost in Dhanbad, V Chetan, said Tuesday.

The families of the labourers were seen arguing with rail officials, seeking adequate compensation and jobs for the kin.
