Rahul Gandhi faces FIR over ‘traitors’ remark against PM Modi, Amit Shah
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha has filed a police complaint after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi allegedly referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as “traitors” during a public event.
The complaint was lodged by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha spokesperson Abhishek Dubey at Tigri Police Station in South Delhi on Wednesday.
Sharing a copy of the complaint on X, Dubey alleged that Gandhi used “indecent and objectionable language” against the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
What Rahul Gandhi said in Rae Bareli
The controversy erupted after Gandhi, while addressing party workers and supporters in Rae Bareli, urged people to confront RSS workers and call Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah as “traitors.”
“When these RSS workers come before you, they will speak of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, then you must say to their faces that your Prime Minister, Home Minister, and the organisation (BJP) is a traitor. You have worked to sell India. You have worked to attack the Constitution,” Gandhi said.
The Congress leader also accused the Modi government of weakening India’s economic system and alleged that it had been handed over to industrialists and foreign interests.
Targeting the Prime Minister over his recent foreign visits, Gandhi claimed that the country was heading towards an economic crisis even as the government was asking citizens to cut fuel consumption and reduce foreign travel.
He also took a swipe at PM Modi’s meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying, “An economic storm is brewing over our heads, and our Prime Minister is out in Italy handing out sweets.”
BJP slams remarks; PDP, Congress hit back
The remarks drew sharp criticism from several BJP leaders, including Nitin Nabin. However, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti questioned the outrage, alleging that BJP leaders have frequently used terms like “traitor” and “turncoat” for critics since 2014 without facing similar backlash.
However, the Congress has not yet officially reacted to the complaint. Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh renewed his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his statement, he says, “The Prime Minister is busy distributing caps and making moral appeals to the public while the ground beneath the country’s feet is slipping away. India urgently needs a fundamental change in economic policies, but the Modi government has no new ideas beyond self-praise.”
