CHANDIGARH: Dumping its own plan to hire a private firm to help unemployed youths find jobs in foreign countries, the
Punjab government has decided to directly play the role of facilitator by setting up its own placement cell.
The government dropped the plan fearing that a private firm might misuse the authority. The move has further delayed implementation of the plan the government was planning to roll out by mid-2019 to save youths from unscrupulous travel agents.
The firm was to assist 5,000 youths to move overseas annually.
Now, the government will set up its own ‘foreign placement and study cell’ for which it has given itself a deadline of two months. Department of employment generation and training secretary
Rahul Tewari said 10 experts would be deputed in the cell.
