The 48-year-old two-time Sangrur MP's name was announced at a public event where Kejriwal declared the result of the AAP's 'Janta Chunegi Apna CM' drive in which it had asked the people of Punjab as to who should be the party's chief ministerial candidate.

Earlier on January 13, Kejriwal asked the people of Punjab to suggest names of their preferred chief ministerial candidates and launched a mobile number for the purpose.

The Election Commission on Monday rescheduled the single-phase assembly elections in Punjab to February 20 instead of February 14 announced earlier.

As per the new schedule, January 25 will be the date for election notification, February 1 last date of filing nominations, February 2 date of scrutiny of nominations, February 2 last date for withdrawal.
