Protest outside Canadian High Commission

A tense situation unfolded outside the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi on Sunday, as hundreds of members of the Hindu Sikh Global Forum staged a protest. The protest was in response to the recent attacks and vandalism of Hindu temples in Canada. Heavy security was deployed, with police stopping protesters at Teen Murti Marg.

Protesters clash with police

Protesters from the Hindu Sikh Global Forum clashed with police barricades outside the Canadian High Commission. Several activists attempted to climb the barricades and topple them, demanding justice for the vandalism of Hindu temples in Canada. The demonstration reflected rising tensions over anti-Hindu attacks in Canada, particularly targeting religious sites.

'A true Sikh can never be a Khalistani': President of Hindu Sikh Global Forum

Tarvinder Singh Marwah, president of the Hindu Sikh Global Forum, addressed the protest, saying, "A true Sikh can never be a Khalistani. We want our Tricolour and our country to be respected at all times. India's Sikhs stand with India." He condemned the rise in religious conversions, drug issues, and attacks on temples, calling them "unfortunate."

Reaction to temple attacks in Canada

The protest was sparked by a recent attack on November 3 at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, Canada. Pro-Khalistani extremists allegedly clashed with Hindu-Canadian devotees, causing physical violence and injuries. This event highlighted the rising tension between pro-Khalistani groups and Hindu communities in Canada.

Growing concern over anti-Hindu sentiment

The attacks on Hindu temples in Canada have sparked widespread condemnation. Both Indian officials and Canadian politicians have voiced concerns over rising anti-Hindu sentiment. The violence, including clashes at the Brampton temple, has drawn international attention, further intensifying the dialogue around religious intolerance in Canada.

Khalistani links and arrests

Following the Brampton temple attack, protests erupted, with Canadian authorities arresting four individuals, including Inderjeet Gosal, a member of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) group. Gosal, associated with Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, faces assault charges. The protests and violence have raised questions about growing Khalistani influence in Canada. In response to the violence, India's ministry of external affairs condemned the attacks on temples and urged Canadian authorities to protect Indian nationals and places of worship. External affairs minister S Jaishankar called the incidents "deeply concerning," while PM Modi expressed hope for justice from Canadian law enforcement.
