NEW DELHI: A heavy-duty Apache AH-64 attack helicopter of the IAF made a "precautionary landing" after a minor technical snag during an operational training sortie near Bhind in Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning.
"The pilot and the weapons systems operator are both safe. There was no damage to the helicopter," an IAF officer said. The pilot went for the precautionary landing after "a warning light" went off in the cockpit.
"A rectification party was dispatched to the site. After the fault was rectified, the Apache took off in the afternoon," the officer added.
The IAF has inducted 22 Apache helicopters, armed with Hellfire and Stinger missiles among other armaments, under the Rs 13,952 crore deal inked with the US in September 2015. The Army, incidentally, is also getting six Apache choppers under a Rs 5,691 crore deal inked in February 2020. Apart from them, the armed forces have also ordered two other iconic helicopters from the US.
