Prasar Bharati to air Bangladesh TV on DD Free Dish

NEW DELHI: A Bangladeshi delegation met with officials of the Information and Broadcasting ministry on Tuesday to discuss and finalise the making of a feature film on the life and works of ‘Bangabandhu’

, the co-production of which was announced by the Prime Ministers of the two countries earlier.

The movie will be directed by filmmaker Shyam Benegal, while the film script will be written by Atul Tiwari. As part of the agreement between the two countries, the

Bangladesh

delegation assured full cooperation in ensuring logistics for shooting the film and for facilitating research for scriptwriter Atul Tiwari, who will travel to Bangladesh to do background research for the project. Bangladesh also said Tiwari will be assisted by Bangladesh’ film personality, Piplu Khan.

Apart from the film on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the two countries will also co-produce a documentary on the

Bangladesh Liberation War

. The I&B secretary was mutually agreed that the director of the documentary would be from Bangladesh who would be assisted by a co-director from India.

It was also announced that Prasar Bharati will carry Bangladesh TV on the

DD Free Dish

platform and waive carriage fee for the same. As a reciprocal gesture, the Bangladesh delegation said a

Doordarshan

channel will be adopted on its soon to be launched DTH platform.

Officials of the two countries also entered into a working agreement on cooperation between

All India Radio

and

Bangladesh Betar

, the implementation of which will start from June, 2019.

The Indian Delegation highlighted the strong network of Community Radio in both countries and offered the services of Indian Institute of Mass Communication for training Bangladesh personnel, along with exploration of sharing of content and best practises in this field.
