Many hit the open water in the pandemic when pools were closed

Open-water swimming is now an Olympic sport. Back home too, it’s attracting a growing number of enthusiasts

India’s swimmers are going wild. They’re battling hypothermia, jellyfish, snakes, unpredictable weather, rip tides, nausea, chafing skin, near-death experiences even. And boy, do they love it. Whether it’s a 10k or a 200k, open water swimmers are suited and raring to go.

But why are people giving up the safe environs of a chlorinated pool for the great and choppy outdoors?
