Police seize illegal weapons from accused in Kurukshetra’s Badarpur shooting case

KURUKSHETRA: The district police have successfully recovered illegal weapons from the accused involved in a shooting incident in Badarpur with the intent to kill. Acting under the guidance of superintendent of police Varun Singla, the crime investigation agency-II (CIA), apprehended suspects Deshraj, a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), currently residing in Badarpur, Ladwa; Sachin alias Sumit from Adarsh Nagar, Hisar; and Suresh Kumar alias Munna from Bani, Kurukshetra.

The incident

According to a police spokesperson, on February 24, a woman from Badarpur lodged a complaint with Ladwa police station, stating that at around 6:30 AM, some unknown individuals knocked on her door. As her husband answered, the suspects opened fire on him. Hearing the gunshots, she rushed to the door and saw two men fleeing the scene. Her husband sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at Ladwa police station, and CIA-II took over the investigation. On March 7, the police arrested the three suspects and presented them before the court, securing a five-day remand for further investigation.

Weapons recovered

During interrogation, the police team, under the leadership of inspector Mohan Lal, recovered crucial evidence. SI Randhir Singh, ASIs Surendra Singh and Lakhan Singh, along with constables Gurmej, Lalit Kumar, Naresh Kumar, and Pradeep Kumar, recovered:

• A scooter and mobile phone used in the crime from accused Deshraj
• A country-made pistol and five live rounds from Sachin alias Sumit
• A country-made pistol, four live rounds, and a motorcycle used in the crime from Suresh Kumar alias Munna

Illegal arms factory discovered in Uttar Pradesh

During further investigation, the police uncovered a larger criminal network linked to illegal arms supply. Acting on the accused's disclosure, the police team traveled to Munda Kadar village in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh. There, they discovered an illegal arms manufacturing unit hidden in a field.

Inspector Mohan Lal revealed that the accused, identified as Sharafat from Munda Kadar, had set up a clandestine arms factory. The police seized:

• Two country-made pistols
• Two 12-bore guns
• Around 127 live rounds
• A large number of empty cartridges
• Explosives used for making bullets
• Tools including pliers, screwdrivers, scissors, axes, knives, saws, iron rods, and metal molds
• Rs 5,000 in cash and two mobile phones

Sharafat, who has 13 previous cases of murder, attempted murder, arms offenses, and theft registered against him in Shamli, was arrested in coordination with the Thanabhawan police.

Police crackdown on illegal arms trade

This successful operation highlights the police’s commitment to curbing illegal arms trafficking and ensuring the safety of citizens and its route map that weapons are also illegally smuggled from UP. Further investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected in connection with the case.
