Police seek MHA nod to prosecute tainted babu
NEW DELHI: The special cell of Delhi Police has sent a request to home ministry, seeking prosecution sanction for tainted senior IAS officer Ravi Inder Singh. The department has to file a chargesheet against Singh, who was posted as the director of internal security in MHA, by January 22. Else, he will get bail.
Sources say they have gathered enough evidence against Singh, including transcripts of his telephonic conversations with his associate Vineet and private telecom companies.

Incriminating documents have also been seized from his office at North Block and his residence and recorded statement of witnesses.
“The investigations are over. We’re looking forward to get sanction quickly so that he doesn’t get bail,” said a senior officer.
Delhi Police has recently told a Delhi court alleging that Singh and Vineet were in touch with a leading south Indian actress and they used code words to talk about her.
Singh, an IAS officer of 1994 batch, and Vineet were arrested on November 23, 2010, for allegedly leaking information to private telecom companies in lieu of money and sexual favour.
The police had tapped Singh’s phone calls for almost two months. The accused had allegedly taken name of a leading Tamil actress (her identity has been withheld) and even talked to her.
“As per out investigations, he and his agent spoke to the actress several times over phone. We are investigating if they met her,” officials said.
According to them, code words like software and hardware were used by the duo to refer to girls and room, respectively. Prasad and ladoo stood for money. Singh’s bail plea was heard on December 20 and 24. He was arrested on charges of leaking information relating to quotations to the companies apart from other vital information regarding contracts and minutes of meetings.
