CHENNAI: PMK founder S Ramadoss, who underwent a heart surgery recently, was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai as he complained of breathlessness after being released from Trichy central prison on May 11 on being granted bail.
Hospital sources said after the surgery, the 75-year-old PMK leader was keeping "well" and was under observation in the intensive care unit for a few days before getting discharged.
Ramadoss was arrested on April 30 for trying to stage a protest at Villupuram to seek the arrest of culprits behind the recent Marakkanam caste violence.
The Marakkanam violence was allegedly targeted at Dalits, and
Tamil Nadu chief minister J
Jayalalithaa had blamed PMK for the incident. But the PMK has denied its involvement.
Ramadoss was arrested in connection with four other cases also, but was subsequently granted bail.
His arrest triggered widespread violence in several parts of the state, leading to the detention of a large number of party workers, including several under the Goondas Act and National Security Act.
