PM: Must probe Pakistan support for opposition netas
NEW DELHI: PM Modi has expressed "shock and surprise" over opposition netas getting endorsements from Pakistan, saying such a trend was a "serious issue" and a matter of "thorough investigation". In an interview with news agency IANS, he said, "I am not aware why certain people are liked by those who harbour animosity towards us."
PM was responding to a question about Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistani ex-minister, expressing support for Arvind Kejriwal. Chaudhry had earlier expressed admiration for Rahul Gandhi.
We’ve created new image and brand of Bharat, says Modi
On May 25, Pakistan’s Fawad Chaudhry posted a message for Kejriwal, while replying to his X post, “May peace and harmony defeat forces of hate and extremism”. Kejriwal had swiftly distanced himself from the endorsement from across the border with a post on X, saying Indians were capable of sorting out their issues.
On May 1, Chaudhry had written on X, “Rahul on fire”, while tagging a video where the Wayanad MP was criticising BJP, particularly targeting Modi. This drew sharp reactions from BJP. The party called it an obvious case of “Congress’s dalliance with Pakistan”.
Modi also said Taj Mahal was not the only tourism destination in the country that foreigners should visit, adding that other serene and picturesque locales were waiting to be explored. “Just by visiting Taj Mahal, you can’t think you have seen the whole of Bharat. There is huge potential in the country and there are multiple destinations to explore,” he added.
The PM said his govt succeeded in its efforts to create a new image and brand of Bharat and make global powers “curious” about India and its diversity with a series of G20 summits across the country.
Modi said the UPI facility played a significant role in India’s fight against Covid-19, even as several prosperous countries faced problems. “If there was no UPI, can someone tell me how we would have fought Covid? Even rich countries could not provide money to their people despite having sufficient funds. We gave it easily to the needy,” Modi said.
“Today, we can send money to 11 crore farmers within 30 seconds. Now, UPI is user-friendly because of talented youth who create such world-class products that any common person can use,” he added.
