NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is far ahead of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi not just in the matter of followers but also in terms of engagements and views on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, according to sources.

A comparative study of engagements on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and viewership on YouTube was done and it found that Modi was ahead of Rahul by leaps and bounds, the sources said.

Twitter

While PM Modi has 90.9 million followers, Rahul has 24 million followers.

The sources said PM Modi’s Twitter account received approximately 79.9 lakh engagements in the last one month while Rahul’s Twitter account received approximately 23.43 lakh engagements in the same period.

The prime minister’s Twitter account received approximately 2.77 crore engagements in the last three months, while the former Congress president’s Twitter account received approximately 58.23 lakh engagements in the same period.

The latest figures are opposite to the findings of a study in Observer Research Foundation (ORF) of March 2022.

The ORF study said, “As of 31 December 2021, Narendra Modi (NM) had more than 75 million followers on Twitter compared to Rahul Gandhi’s (RG) over-20 million. From 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021, NM posted 9,477 tweets, while RG posted 1,835 tweets. On average, NM posted 8.6 tweets daily (95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 8.3 to 9.0), while RG posted 1.7 tweets (95% CI: 1.6 to 1.8). In terms of the total engagement (sum of retweets, likes, and quotes), a tweet by RG on average generated 57,618 engagements (95% CI: 55,694 to 59,543), while a tweet from NM on average generated 33,801 engagements (95% CI: 33,305 to 34,298).”

Facebook

While Modi has 48 million followers on Facebook, Rahul has 6.7 million followers.

The sources said Modi’s Facebook account received approximately 57.89 lakh engagements in the last one month while Rahul’s Facebook account received approximately 28.38 lakh engagements in the same period.

The prime minister’s Facebook account received approximately 3.25 crore engagements in this year, while the Wayanad MP’s Facebook account received approximately 1.88 crore engagements this year, it said.

YouTube

Modi’s YouTube channel has 6.5 million subscribers while Rahul’s channel has 2.73 million subscribers.

PM Modi’s YouTube channel gained approximately 25.46 crore views in the last one month while Rahul Gandhi’s YouTube gained approximately 4.82 crore views in the same period.

Modi’s YouTube channel gained approximately 75.79 crore views this year while Rahul’s YouTube channel gained approximately 25.38 crore views this year.

Instagram

On Instagram, PM Modi has 77.4 million followers while Rahul Gandhi has 4.1 million followers.


The screenshots of Instagram posts shared by the sources also showed that PM Modi received far greater viewership than those of Rahul Gandhi.
