US President Donald Trump won key concessions on climate and trade today from world leaders at the most fractious G20 summit to date, in exchange for preserving the unity of the club of major industrialised and emerging economies. In a final statement agreed by all 20 economies, 19 members including Russia, China and the European Union acknowledged Trump's decision to go his own way on taking the US out of the 2015 Paris climate accord.

The draft trade language

EU officials at the summit in Hamburg said that the draft trade language keeps the traditional G-20 condemnation of protectionism, or keeping out foreign competitors with unfair import taxes or regulations. But countries also agreed to fight "all unfair trade practices'' and recognize "legitimate trade defense instruments."

European Union officials say that Leaders of the Group of 20 countries have agreed to keep their markets open to foreign trade. But the group's draft statement also says that trade needs to be mutually beneficial and that countries can take steps to protect their markets.

G20 to facilitate swift and targeted exchange of information between intelligence, law enforcement and judicial authorities.

Will address threat of returning foreign terrorists from Iraq, Syria; prevent them from establishing foothold in other countries

G20 asks private sector, including communication firms, to join fight against radicalisation by curbing internet misuse for terror propaganda.

G20 also encourages collaboration with industry to provide lawful access to available information where necessary to counter terror threats.

Appropriate filtering of content that incites terrorist acts is crucial; rule of law applies both online and offline: G20 leaders.
