PM Modi honours Veer Savarkar during visit to French city Marseille

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Marseille on Tuesday night, marking the beginning of an important leg of his France visit. His first message on social media was a tribute to Veer Savarkar, who had attempted a daring escape from the city during India’s freedom struggle. As part of his Marseille visit, PM Modi inaugurated a new Indian consulate in the city. He described it as a step towards enhancing people-to-people connections between India and France. Later in the day, PM Modi and President Macron held talks in Marseille, covering a wide range of topics. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, addressing global and regional challenges, and exploring new areas of collaboration. PM Modi and President Macron's agenda for the day also includes visiting the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project. Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited Mazargues War Cemetery to honour Indian soldiers who died in the World Wars.
During his 2-day visit, Pm Modi also stressed the strong foundation of India-France relations, stating, "India and France aren't just connected by democratic values. Deep trust, innovation, and serving the people are the pillars of our friendship. Our relationship isn't limited to just our two nations. Together, we're providing solutions to global problems."
