PM Modi flashes victory sign as BJP takes lead in Gujarat, Himachal

NEW DELHI: As early trends emerging from counting centres indicated that the BJP will likely form the next government in both

Gujarat

and

Himachal Pradesh

, Prime Minister Narendra flashed the victory sign to cameras outside

Parliament

on Monday.



Apparently buoyed by reports of the BJP outstripping Congress in both states, the Prime Minister stepped out of his car and made the 'V' sign as he arrived for the Winter session of Parliament.

With the BJP crossing the half-way mark in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls, the party is now poised to form the government in both the states, even as the early trends showed the Congress party giving a tough fight to it.

The BJP was ahead on 103 seats in Gujarat, while the Congress was at 74 after initial rounds of counting.

In Himachal Pradesh, the saffron party had taken the lead on 41 seats while the ruling Congress in ahead on 24.

The counting of votes for 68 Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh and 182 constituencies in Gujarat began at 8 am this morning and is still underway.
