UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where the two leaders discussed aspects of the relationship between both countries.

In a post on X, Starmer expressed that both leaders held a productive meeting. In a significant announcement, he informed that the two countries have "announced plans to relaunch UK-India trade talks".

The UK-India Trade talks had been halted and were set to resume after the completion of elections in the United Kingdom.

Starmer noted, "A new trade deal will support jobs and prosperity in the UK - and represent a step forward in our mission to deliver growth and opportunity across the country".

The two countries in the bilateral meeting discussed various aspects of the India-UK partnership.

Paraguay's President Santiago Pena was taken to a Rio hospital late Monday after falling ill while attending a G20 summit, officials said.

"We inform that the President of the Republic, Santiago Pena, was treated today at the Samaritano Hospital (Botafogo) in Rio de Janeiro due to an indisposition," Brazilian authorities said in a statement.

In a medical bulletin, the hospital later indicated that Pena, 46, had "a malaise in the afternoon" and was taken to a health center for diagnostic tests.

"The head of state is doing well and his current state of health is stable," it added in a note.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met on Monday night met during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro to discuss next steps after Ladakh disengagement.

The ministers acknowledged the progress made on the recent disengagement in border areas of Ladakh and discussed future steps for the two countries. They also talked about the global situation.

Our contribution to both platforms was notable in shaping the outcomes but it was a reminder to us of the importance of our two countries in international politics. It was also an equally significant testimony of why our bilateral relations are more important. In Kazan, our leaders reached a consensus in taking the next steps in our relations bearing in mind the understanding of 21st October. I am glad to note that on the ground the implementation of that understanding has proceeded as planned. Our leaders have directed the Foreign Ministers and the special representatives should meet at an early date. Some progress, some discussions have happened in that direction. Today, I am looking forward to discussing with you the next steps."
