NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday night during the G20 Summit in Brazil. The two leaders discussed working together in areas such as technology, green energy, security, and innovation and agreed to address the issue of Indian economic offenders residing in the UK.

"Had an extremely productive meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Rio de Janeiro. For India, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the UK is of immense priority. In the coming years, we are eager to work closely in areas such as technology, green energy, security, innovation, and technology. We also want to add strength to trade as well as cultural linkages," PM Modi posted on X.


"Prime Minister noted the importance of addressing the issue of economic offenders from India in the UK." The Ministry of External Affairs statement also highlighted the agreement on making "progress on issues related to migration and mobility."

Both leaders want to resume negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement soon. They hope to create a balanced agreement that benefits both countries.

To better serve the Indian community in the UK, PM Modi announced the opening of two new Indian Consulates General in Belfast and Manchester.

PM Modi's schedule on the first day of the G20 Summit included meetings with leaders from several countries, including France, Italy, Norway, Portugal, and Indonesia.

During a session on social programs, PM Modi highlighted India's efforts to combat poverty and hunger. He also expressed support for Brazil's proposal to create a global alliance to address these issues.
