Plea seeks stay on release of film Shikara

SRINAGAR: A PIL filed in J&K high court has sought a stay on the release of movie Shikara which, according to the petitioners, portrays Kashmiri Muslims in “bad light” for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir in 1990.

, claims that the movie will deepen the wedge between two communities and also put the lives of Kashmiri Muslims outside Kashmir Valley at risk.

Advocate Lone said the film portrays Kashmiris in “bad light” and reflects all Kashmiris as “murderers” involved in the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. In the PIL, the petitioners argued that the movie should not be released on its proposed date of February 7 unless the content is reviewed by a competent authority.

Shikara is a historical drama/ romantic film produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
