Permission to Karmapa for UP visit

Amid investigations into the Karmapa monastery case pertaining to huge haul of foreign currency, including 9 lakh worth Chinese Yuan, the 17th Karmapa has got the nod from the Union home ministry to visit Sarnath near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

DHARAMSALA: Amid investigations into the Karmapa monastery case pertaining to huge haul of foreign currency, including 9 lakh worth Chinese Yuan, the 17th Karmapa has got the nod from the Union home ministry to visit Sarnath near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
The Karmapa would be visiting visit Vajra Vidya Institute in Sarnath from March 9 to 12 in connection with spring teachings.

The Karmapa's office said that it was a routine visit of the Karmapa.
Meanwhile, HP state secretariat of the CPI (M) has condemned and indicted the Congress-led UPA government for working under pressure of US embassy and giving a clean chit to Karmapa without even verifying the facts of the case. CPI (M) spokesperson said that despite the fact that a few accused are still behind bars and the investigations are going on, the Congress government felt it appropriate with its subjective mind to bail out Karmapa.
