Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MPs staged a protest in Parliament on Friday, accusing the central government of failing to address the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi. The demonstration was led by AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and other party members.

The protest followed an explosion in Delhi's Prashant Vihar on Thursday, which prompted a swift response from fire tenders, as well as teams from the National Security Guard (NSG), Delhi Police Crime Branch, Special Cell, and Bomb Disposal Squad. A high alert was declared in the capital after the blast.

Delhi chief minister Atishi also criticized the BJP-led central government, comparing the city's law and order situation to that of 1990s Mumbai.

Parliament was unable to conduct any significant business on the third day of the winter session on Wednesday, as opposition members staged protests and raised slogans, demanding discussions on various issues, including allegations of irregularities against the Adani Group and violence in Sambhal and Manipur. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned once in the morning and later for the day due to the ongoing uproar.

In the Lok Sabha, only minimal business was transacted, including addressing a single question during Question Hour, laying a few official papers, and approving some routine motions. At one point, opposition members even marched into the well of the House, continuing their protest with slogans.

The government has introduced a series of transformative bills in the ongoing winter session of Parliament, aimed at driving economic growth, modernization, job creation, and sustainability. According to government sources, these legislative proposals span sectors such as oilfields, shipping, railways, aviation, and disaster management, with the intention of not just updating laws but implementing strategic overhauls to align India with global standards and promote development.

For example, the Oilfields (Regulation & Development) Bill, 2024, represents a major shift from colonial-era practices by modernizing terminology and facilitating unconventional hydrocarbon exploration. Similarly, the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, along with the Lading Bill, 2024, seeks to streamline maritime laws, bringing them in line with international standards. Notably, the Merchant Shipping Bill removes criminal penalties for minor infractions, signaling a shift toward a more supportive regulatory framework, which is expected to enhance India's maritime sector and strengthen its position in global trade.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Kashmir's leading cleric and separatist figure, has once again written to Jagdambika Pal, the head of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) reviewing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, alleging that the proposed amendments threaten the interests of Muslims. Farooq, who is also the head of Mutahida Majlis-E-Ulema, requested an urgent meeting to discuss his concerns. In a letter sent to Pal in September, he had warned that the bill could undermine the autonomy of Waqf boards and negatively impact religious, social, and charitable Islamic institutions.

Aside from the JPC extension, proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were largely disrupted for the third consecutive day, as opposition members called for the suspension of business to discuss corruption allegations against the Adani group, violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, and the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur. The Lok Sabha was initially adjourned for an hour after it convened and later suspended for the day at noon, following the approval of the JPC extension via a voice vote.
