BJP MP Nishikant Dubey asks, 'If a PM, MP or a minister is jailed, should they not resign?'

On the Bill for removal of the PM, CMs, and ministers held on serious criminal charges, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey says, "... Rahul Gandhi's, Congress' and the entire Opposition's politics runs on tuition and tweet. If a PM, MP or a minister is jailed, should they not resign?... Amit Shah was the Home Minister of Gujarat... Did he not go to jail? Did he not resign before going to jail?... He did not take any constitutional position until he was acquitted by the court. A case was registered against Uma Bharti in Karnataka. She resigned from her CM chair, and then she went to the Karnataka Court. She was not even jailed. But the party accepted her resignation because she was summoned. LK Advani faced a Hawala case. He resigned as the MP and did not contest any election until he was acquitted... But today, people like Arvind Kejriwal keep being the CM from jail... What is wrong if such a bill is being brought? Even the PM will be included... After the Emergency was imposed, an amendment was brought that no action can be taken against the PM for any kind of crime... The PM should be punished if he commits a crime under the right to equality..."

The way the opposition behaved in Parliament today is condemnable... Does the opposition, especially the Congress party, want its leaders to remain above the law even after going to jail?... In the past, we have seen that some leaders wanted to run the government from jail and did not resign... This bill will bring a lot of transparency... The aim of the leaders opposing this bill is to bring anarchy in the country... This shows how little they respect the Constitution... Rahul Gandhi is anti-Constitution

Parliament Monsoon Session: Opposition tears bill, throws copies at HM

Opposition MPs on Wednesday tore and threw the copies of the three Bills towards Union home minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha, which seek to remove the Prime Minister or Chief Ministers who are facing allegations of corruption or serious offences and have been detained for 30 consecutive days.

Shah tabled the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, to further amend the Constitution of India and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, apart from the bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. He also proposed sending the bllls to a joint committee of Parliament.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025 seeks to amend section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, to provide a legal framework for the removal of the Chief Minister or a Minister in case of arrest or detention in custody on account of serious criminal charges.

Several Opposition MPs opposed the bills amid huge sloganeering, prompting the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the House till 3 pm.

Opposing the Bills, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi said, "I stand to oppose the introduction of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill 2025. This violates the principle of separation of powers and undermines the right of the people to elect a government. It gives executive agencies a free hand to act as judge and executioner based on flimsy allegations and suspicions."

"This government is hell-bent on creating a Police State. This will be the final nail in the coffin of elected governments. The Indian Constitution is being amended to turn this country into a police state. The Chief Minister and the Ministers will not be accountable to the people," Owaisi added.

It throws all existing Constitutional safeguards to the winds."

Parliament Monsoon Session Live Updates: New Gaming bill proposes, no punishment for players of online money games, action against service providers

In the just-introduced Bill to regulate online gaming in India, there will be no punishment for those playing online money games; it is only the service providers, advertisers, promoters, and those who financially support such games will face the consequences, said sources

"No punishment for those playing online games. No punishment to victims. Only punishment for service providers, advertisers, promoters and who support financially to such games," a source said on Wednesday.

The Online Gaming Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday encourages e-sports and online social games while prohibiting harmful online money gaming services, advertisements, and financial transactions related to them. The Bill seeks to completely ban on offering, operating, or facilitating online money games, irrespective of whether based on skill, chance, or both, the government said.

Through this legislation, the government aims to promote e-sports and give them legal recognition.

This bill will help in providing legal support to e-sports. Earlier, there was no legal backing for e-sports, sources said.

"We have interacted with the 3rd segment of the online gaming industry. We tried to impose GST also, but the challenge continued. We had no option but to choose society for the welfare of people," a source said.

RJD's Manoj Jha calls Constitution Amd Bill to remove PM, CMs over graft charges a 'tactic'

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Wednesday opposed the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to remove PM, CMs, and ministers facing allegations of corruption or serious offences and have been detained for 30 consecutive days.

Speaking to ANI, Jha described it as a "tactic" that wherever BJP can't win elections, it will not indulge in horse-trading, but destabilise and topple that government through the bill.

"The difference between the accused and the convicted has blurred. The Supreme Court had commented about ED that they are becoming a part of the political game. They will slap PMLA cases against anyone and put them behind bars. This is a tactic. Wherever you can't win elections, you need not indulge in horse-trading. Just destabilise them and topple them. I think the Home Minister wants to target a few people from his own party as well," he said.

Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai said, "One more line should have been written in it that either the criminal joins BJP or this bill will be applied to them. The Prime Minister and Home Minister, who claimed to send someone to jail, as soon as they join BJP, they become Chief Ministers and Ministers."

'BJP govt wants to make country a police state': Owaisi on Bill to oust PM, CMs facing charges

As the Centre prepares to introduce a Constitution Amendment Bill seeking the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers facing serious criminal charges, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday termed the move "unconstitutional," accusing the BJP government of turning the country into a "police state."

Speaking to ANI, Owaisi said his party would oppose the legislation.

"The people have the right to hold elected governments accountable; this bill goes against that. Executive agencies will get a free run to become judge, jury, and executioner themselves. The Chief Minister is removed in the Assembly," he said.

"This bill is unconstitutional. Who will arrest the Prime Minister?... All in all, the BJP government wants to make our country a police state through these bills...We will oppose them...The BJP is forgetting that power is not eternal," the AIMIM MP said.

Rajya Sabha proceedings adjourned till 2 pm as Opposition protests over SIR issue continue

Rajya Sabha proceedings were washed out in the pre-lunch session on Wednesday and were adjourned till 2 pm, as Opposition MPs continued to disrupt proceedings over their demand for a discussion on alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The Upper House failed to transact any business as opposition members created uproar and raised slogans in the House.

When the House reassembled at 12 noon, Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was in the Chair, called for taking up the Question Hour.

Congress deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari sought to raise the issue of SIR and alleged "vote chori" but was disallowed by the Chair.

This led to sloganeering and shouting by Opposition members, who had already got up from their seats.

The Chair then adjourned the House till 2 pm.

During the session, Om Birla said, "I request that banners with wooden sticks are not appropriate in the House. On the bill for the removal of the PM, CMs, and ministers held on serious criminal charges, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "I see it as a completely draconian thing, as it goes against everything. To say it as an anti-corruption measure is just to pull a veil across the eyes of the people...Tomorrow, you can put any kind of a case on a CM, have him arrested for 30 days without conviction, and he ceases to be a CM. It is absolutely anti-constitutional, undemocratic and very unfortunate."

Vice-President election: 'It is not Reddy vs Radhakrishnan,' says INDIA bloc's candidate B Sudershan Reddy

I don't think that even Mr Radhakrishnan treats it as Reddy vs Radhakrishnan. At present there are two candidates, we do not know there may be a third candidate tomorrow. We do not know how many candidates will be there since this is not a general election in that sense. The Vice President of India is to be elected by the MPs. Parliament Monsoon Session: 'Can't be accepted,' says RSP MP Premachandran on Constitution Amendment Bill

Revolutionary Socialist Party MP N K Premachandran on Wednesday described the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, as an "ulterior motive" of the Centre to destabilise the non-BJP-ruled state governments and Chief Ministers.

The Bill seeks to remove the PM, CMs, and ministers held on serious criminal charges.

Premachandran told ANI, "It is not at all applicable to the PM but to the CMs and Ministers. This is with an ulterior motive on the part of the Government to destabilise the non-BJP-ruled state governments and the CMs. We know that ED, IT and so many central investigating agencies are behind the non-BJP state governments. It is very easy to destabilise the opposition-ruled state governments using the ED. This cannot be accepted; this will be opposed."
