BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Monday claimed that India’s Operation Sindoor dealt a severe blow to Pakistan, specifically citing the Rahim Khan Airbase.

“Ask Pakistan how catastrophic our Indian missiles were. It's been more than 2 months, but Rahim Khan Airbase is still non-functional,” Thakur said during the debate in the Lok Sabha.

Thakur’s statement came amid a heated discussion on the impact and outcomes of the operation. The BJP has projected Operation Sindoor as a decisive military move, while sections of the Opposition have questioned its objectives and transparency.

During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Praniti Shinde criticized the government’s handling of the operation, calling it a “tamasha” or spectacle.

“No one is telling us what was achieved in this Operation,” Shinde said. She demanded clarity on key details, asking, “How many terrorists were caught? How many fighter jets did we lose? Who is responsible and whose mistake is this? The government should answer these questions.”

Her remarks reflect the opposition’s demand for greater transparency and accountability regarding India’s recent military actions.

During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, NCP MP Supriya Sule strongly condemned BJP MP Tejasvi Surya’s comments that Jawaharlal Nehru did not encourage India’s defence forces and claimed this government was the first to perform well militarily.

“I object to the statement he has made,” Sule said. “He has insulted thousands of Indian soldiers and their families who have stood to keep us safe. Tejasvi Surya, if you haven’t read history, then read it.”

Emphasizing national unity, she added, “When it comes to the country, the country comes first, then the state, then the party, then the family.”

Sule also recalled being called by Union minister Kiren Rijiju, who asked her to dedicate 10 days for the nation. “It was the greatness of the Prime Minister that he showed faith in opposition leaders to lead delegations,” she said.

Highlighting bipartisan cooperation, Sule said, “At the all-party meeting, the Congress party was the first to say that the Congress and the entire opposition will stand with Narendra Modi’s government with full strength.”

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Sule said, “When it comes to national duty, first comes the country, then the state, and then party and family. PM Modi has shown a big heart by appointing Opposition leaders to lead the all-party delegation.”

Her remarks underscored the importance of putting national interests above political divides during critical missions.

NCP MP Supriya Sule praised the Modi government for including Opposition leaders in the all-party delegation to Egypt under Operation Sindoor, calling it an example of the Prime Minister's "large-heartedness."

"It was PM Modi's large-heartedness because of which we were sent. I'm thankful the government placed faith in us Opposition members," Sule said in the Lok Sabha. She led the all-party delegation that travelled to Egypt to secure the release of Indian nationals held hostage by Houthi rebels.

Taking a swipe at the BJP over its repeated criticism of the UPA’s response to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Sule said, "The BJP keeps saying the Congress government didn’t act. I want to say the police officer who lost his life while capturing Kasab should be credited, not the government."

She also urged the House not to ignore other tragedies while celebrating the success of Operation Sindoor. “Sixteen people were martyred in Poonch and Rajouri, and over 60 were injured. In the Pahalgam attack, 26 people were killed. We should remember them too.”

TMC MP Mahua Moitra accused BJP-ruled states of persecuting Bengali-speaking people under the guise of identifying illegal immigrants. “Nazis used to take a group of people and dehumanise them... What are they doing with Bengalis across the nation?” she said in the Lok Sabha.

Moitra claimed that around 22 lakh people from Bengal work in other states and alleged, “A secret notification has been issued in one BJP-ruled state allowing 30-day detention without trial. In several states, 400–500 people are being picked up and asked to prove they are not Bangladeshis.”

Calling it “the worst kind of persecution,” she said, “This is exactly what happened during Hitler’s time, when people were scared to step outside. Today, children of Bengali workers in places like Gurugram are not going to school out of fear.”

“No one says anything to the rich migrants. The challenge is only for those working in people’s homes,” she said, calling the crackdown classist as well as discriminatory.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said, “From 25th April till the commencement of Operation Sindoor, there were a number of phone calls and conversations. At my level, there were 27 calls; at PM Modi's level, almost 20 calls. About 35–40 letters of support came in.”

He added, “What we tried to do was to create a narrative, prepare the diplomacy for the launch of Operation Sindoor... There are 193 nations in the United Nations, only three countries apart from Pakistan opposed Operation Sindoor.”

Addressing speculation around his China visit, Jaishankar said, “I didn’t go to China for the Olympics or secret deals. I went there to make India’s stand very clear on terrorism, trade, and de-escalation.”

Jaishankar said the Opposition had no right to lecture on China when it allowed 2G and 3G technologies from China, adding, “Our government delivered indigenous 5G.”

Taking a swipe at the Congress, he said, “Those who believed ‘inaction’ was the best response after 26/11 are now questioning Operation Sindoor.”

Jaishankar dispelled rumours about ties between trade and terror-related diplomacy with the United States, stating, “At no stage, in any conversation with the United States, was there any linkage with trade and what was going on.”

During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Union home minister Amit Shah took a strong swipe at the Opposition, accusing them of lacking faith in India’s External Affairs Minister while trusting foreign nations.

“I have an objection that they (Opposition) don’t have faith in a foreign minister,er but they have faith in some other country,” Shah said. “I can understand the importance of foreign relations in their party. But this doesn’t mean that all the things of their party should be imposed here in the House.”

Shah added pointedly, “This is the reason why they are sitting there (opposition benches), and will remain sitting there for the next 20 years.” The comment underscored the ruling party’s confidence in its governance and foreign policy handling amid ongoing tensions with Pakistan.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar took a strong stand against critics questioning the government’s counter-terrorism measures, saying those who remained inactive now have the “temerity” to question India’s efforts.

“People who did nothing have the temerity to question the government which brought down the Bahawalpur and Muridke terror sites,” Jaishankar said during the Lok Sabha discussion on Operation Sindoor.

He lauded the government’s decisive actions, highlighting the dismantling of terror camps in Pakistan as a significant achievement in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

Jaishankar clarified in the Lok Sabha that there were no direct phone calls between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump between April 22 and June 17.

Jaishankar also revealed that following India’s retaliatory strikes against Pakistan, India received phone calls indicating Pakistan’s willingness to halt further aggression. However, India made it clear that any such request must come formally from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).

“After we retaliated to the Pakistan attack, we got phone calls saying Pakistan was ready to stop; but we told them the request has to come from DGMO,” Jaishankar said during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor.

The minister’s statement underscores India’s insistence on official and verifiable communication channels following heightened cross-border tensions.

Jaishankar highlighted India’s successful diplomatic efforts following the Pahalgam terror attack, praising the dismantling of terror camps in Pakistan and the international designation of The Resistance Front (TRF) as a global terrorist organisation.

“Who thought that terror sites in Bahawalpur and Muridke would be brought down the way they were?” Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha, referring to key locations in Pakistan linked to terrorist activities targeting India.

He credited India’s diplomacy for the designation of TRF, the group that claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, as a global terrorist organisation. “Thanks to India’s diplomacy, TRF has been officially designated as a terrorist group internationally,” the minister said.

Jaishankar’s remarks underline the combination of military action and sustained diplomatic pressure in India’s approach to combating terrorism emanating from across the border.

Jaishankar noted that the move to formally designate TRF under international terror frameworks was an essential part of India’s post-attack strategy. “This was not just a military operation, it was backed by sustained global diplomacy,” he said.

The TRF, believed to be a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has been involved in multiple attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and was identified as the group behind the deadly ambush in Pahalgam that killed five Indian soldiers.

The minister emphasised that Operation Sindoor involved not only a swift tactical response but also international coordination to expose and isolate Pakistan-backed terror networks.

S Jaishankar said that as part of India’s diplomatic response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the US played a key role in helping designate The Resistance Front (TRF), the group behind the attack, as a terrorist organisation.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar said, “The US was a crucial partner in our fight against terrorism. It ensured that TRF was tagged as a terror group after the Pahalgam attack.”

Jaishankar said the success of Operation Sindoor was not just in the field but also in how India mobilised international opinion. “This resonated among the international community... The answer is there in the UNSC statement and we did that with Operation Sindoor,” he said.

The minister added that building a global consensus on Pakistan’s role in cross-border terrorism remains a key pillar of India’s foreign policy response.

External affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar told the Lok Sabha that India’s diplomatic outreach following the Pahalgam terror attack secured strong international backing, as reflected in the April 25 statement by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

“Our goals were to get an endorsement from the UNSC on the need for accountability and to bring to justice those who perpetrated the attack,” Jaishankar said during a discussion on Operation Sindoor.

Referring to the UNSC statement issued on April 25, Jaishankar highlighted that the Council “condemned in the strongest terms” the terrorist attack and reaffirmed that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.”

Crucially, the UNSC statement “underlined the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism to account,” he said.

Outlining India’s foreign policy efforts post-attack, Jaishankar said the government’s diplomatic task was to shape the global understanding of the Pahalgam incident and Pakistan’s continued use of terrorism as state policy.

“We highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing support for cross-border terrorism and how this particular attack was intended to target Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and provoke communal discord across India,” he said.

India, he added, made a concerted effort to build global consensus around Pakistan’s pattern of destabilising activities in the region.

Further diplomatic steps are expected in the days ahead, the minister indicated, reiterating that India's response would be sustained and calibrated.

EAM Jaishankar made it clear that these were just the first steps. “It was very clear that after the first set of steps approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security, India's response to the Pahalgam attack would not stop there,” he said.

He added that the decision to suspend the treaty was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security. “The Indus Waters Treaty has been put in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably gives up its support of cross-border terrorism,” Jaishankar said.

The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan under the World Bank’s mediation, governs water-sharing of the Indus River system. Sunday’s announcement marks a rare and significant escalation in India’s diplomatic posture following the attack in Pahalgam that killed five Indian soldiers.

BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda took a veiled dig at Congress leadership in the Lok Sabha, saying the party does not allow some of its best voices to speak freely in favour of the country.

“It would have been fun if you (Congress) had given a free hand,” Panda said during a discussion on Operation Sindoor. “Many of your leaders speak really well. My friend Shashi Tharoor speaks really well, but his leadership does not allow him to speak on behalf of the party.”

Panda, however, added that he was pleased to hear Tharoor speak in favour of India during a recent issue. “I felt really good that no one could stop him from speaking in favour of the country,” he said.

The comments came as part of a broader debate on India’s foreign policy, national security, and the recent rescue mission in Bhutan. Panda used the opportunity to contrast what he described as the BJP’s firm national stance with internal constraints within the Congress.

During a discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Sunday, BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda informed the House about an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir named Operation Mahadev.

“As we were debating this issue today, some of us must have seen in the news that an Operation Mahadev is being conducted in Jammu and Kashmir targeted at terrorists, and it appears that at least one of those eliminated today was involved in the Pahalgam attack,” Panda said.

While the government has yet to release an official statement on Operation Mahadev, sources indicate that it is part of a larger effort to neutralise terrorists suspected of recent attacks, including the July ambush on an army convoy in Pahalgam, which resulted in the death of five soldiers.

Panda made the remark during a broader debate in Parliament, where several MPs were praising the Indian forces for their swift action in rescuing workers from Bhutan under Operation Sindoor. He drew a parallel between India’s external rescue efforts and the continuing fight against terrorism at home.

BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda took aim at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi during a Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, accusing the Congress of repeatedly surrendering India’s interests over the decades.

“It was amusing when he asked when we will get PoK back… when he mentioned Rafales and the China question. He said India had ‘bowed down’—a word his leader often uses, and I’m sure he would be excited today,” Panda said, referring to Congress’ China stance.

He added, “It’s important to remind the House how many times the Congress has surrendered India’s interests in the past.”

Panda’s remarks came as part of the BJP’s broader pushback against Opposition criticism of the government’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military operation.

Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee questioned the timing of the ceasefire following Operation Sindoor, likening it to calling off a cricket innings just before a player scores a century.

“We thought we would win the war and teach Pakistan a lesson. Why did we declare a ceasefire? Have we ever seen an innings being declared when the player is about to score a century? They did the same,” Banerjee said during the Lok Sabha debate.

He cited US President Donald Trump’s public claims that the India-Pakistan ceasefire was achieved after his intervention. “If that’s incorrect, why didn’t Prime Minister Modi counter it publicly and say it was false?” he asked.

“Why did we declare a ceasefire under pressure from the American President?” Banerjee added, demanding clarity on whether India acted independently or under international influence.

His comments reflect growing opposition concerns over the lack of transparency around the government’s handling of both the Pahalgam attack and the military response that followed.

During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind G Sawant raised serious concerns over the security arrangements at the site of the Pahalgam terror attack, demanding answers on why no forces were present at the time.

“Why was there no security presence at the popular tourist spot on the day of the Pahalgam attack? Who ordered that the armed forces not be deployed there? This is where the investigation should begin,” Sawant said.

His remarks added to the growing chorus from the opposition demanding transparency and accountability from the government over both the attack and the response that followed.

Union minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh on Monday criticised Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, saying Gogoi failed to acknowledge the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.

“I heard Gaurav Gogoi’s speech. I thought he would be well-studied and say something substantial, but he didn’t say a single useful word. He didn’t praise our armed forces even once. Do you have no value for our soldiers?” Singh asked.

Defending the government, he said, “It was during the UPA era that terrorism took birth and found a place in the country.”

Singh’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions in Parliament over Operation Sindoor and the government’s handling of national security issues.

Congress MP Manish Tewari on Monday said the country stands united against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism but called for a serious and honest discussion on the effectiveness of Operation Sindoor.

“There is a need to distinguish between two things, when it comes to Pakistani-sponsored terrorism, the entire country is united,” Tewari said during the Lok Sabha debate.

He added, “The second thing is, how much impact did the military action between May 7 and May 10 have in stopping Pakistan-sponsored terrorism? There is a need for serious discussion on this.”

Tewari's remarks come amid ongoing opposition scrutiny of the government’s handling of national security and its communication around Operation Sindoor.

Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Centre during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, questioning the government's failure to capture the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack.

“Where are the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terrorist attack? If we haven’t been able to catch them in the last one month, it means the country is not in safe hands,” Yadav said.

He dismissed the threat from Pakistan as minimal, saying, “Pakistan cannot stand against 100 of our soldiers,” but raised concern over China’s involvement. “The real issue is China, which is supporting Pakistan with new technology—and we are not even talking about it,” he added.

Criticising the government’s narrative, Yadav said, “The truth was nowhere to be seen. One should have the courage to speak the truth.” He also questioned the Prime Minister's approach, saying, “On matters of national security and foreign policy, Narendra Modi has not been successful.”

Yadav further argued that the government has relied solely on the abrogation of Article 370, which, he said, has not ensured safety in Kashmir. “Even after the removal of Article 370, attacks have happened, and Kashmir has remained unsafe,” he said.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday accused the Centre of evading responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, questioning why Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the government have remained silent while blaming local authorities.

“Who takes responsibility for the Pahalgam attack? The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir? No. If someone must be held accountable, it is the Union Home Minister. The Central government cannot hide behind the LG,” Gogoi said during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor.

He slammed the government's response to the attack, alleging it tried to shift blame onto tour operators. “The government is so weak and cowardly that it said the tour operators were responsible for taking people to Baisaran without permission or a license. Is this your answer to terrorism?” he said.

Criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gogoi said, “After returning from Saudi Arabia, PM Modi did not visit Pahalgam. He attended a government event and held a political rally in Bihar. The only leader who visited Pahalgam was Rahul Gandhi.”

Gogoi’s remarks come amid growing opposition demands for clarity on the government’s handling of internal security and its silence on key terror incidents.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi launched a scathing attack on the Centre during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, questioning why, despite advanced surveillance tools and security forces, the five terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack remain untraceable even after 100 days.

“It has been 100 days since the Pahalgam attack, but this government has not been able to catch those five terrorists,” Gogoi said, referring to the deadly attack in Baisaran. “You have drones, Pegasus, satellites, CRPF, BSF, CISF—and even the Defence Minister visited the area—but still no results,” he added.

Painting a harrowing picture of the aftermath, Gogoi said it took nearly an hour for an ambulance to reach the site. “The army came on foot. I cannot forget those visuals—when a mother and her daughter saw an Indian soldier, they broke down, thinking he was the terrorist in uniform who had attacked them. That soldier had to assure them, ‘I am Indian, you are safe,’” he recalled.

Gogoi criticised Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for not addressing the attack in his remarks. “This is the kind of terror people experienced in Baisaran. Rajnath ji, you should have spoken one word on this,” he said.

The government has not yet formally responded to Gogoi’s remarks in Parliament.

During a heated debate in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi raised a series of pointed questions at defence minister Rajnath Singh and the Modi government, seeking clarity on reported losses and the sudden ceasefire announcement.

“We want to know from Rajnath Singh ji today, how many of our fighter jets were downed? We must tell the truth not just to the public, but also to our jawans, who are being lied to,” Gogoi said, suggesting that any loss of Rafale jets would be a significant setback.

Referring to the ceasefire declared on May 10, Gogoi asked, “The entire country and the Opposition were supporting PM Modi. Then suddenly there was a ceasefire. Why? If Pakistan was ready to kneel down, why did you stop? To whom did you surrender?”

He also cited repeated claims by the US that it had pressured both India and Pakistan into a ceasefire. “The US President has said this 26 times. Is it true?” Gogoi asked.

On internal security, he questioned the government’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack. “It’s been 100 days since the attack, and the government has not brought the terrorists to justice,” he said.

The government is yet to respond to the specific allegations made by Gogoi during the debate.

Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh on Monday raised serious concerns in Parliament over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, claiming it has led to the deletion of millions of voter names in Bihar.

“SIR is a big issue for the people of Bihar. How can we leave this issue? As a responsible political party, how can we see millions of votes getting deducted and voting rights being ended?” Singh said.

He added that the matter has triggered strong reactions, resulting in disruptions in the House. “Even today, there was a disruption in the House, and the House was adjourned,” Singh noted.

The opposition has been demanding accountability from the Election Commission, alleging that the revision exercise is being carried out without transparency, and could impact voter turnout in the upcoming elections.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday responded to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks in the Lok Sabha over Operation Sindoor, asserting that it was the Opposition’s responsibility to question the government on national security lapses.

Speaking during the debate, Gogoi said,"Rajnath Singh ji gave a lot of information, but as Defence Minister, he never mentioned how terrorists from Pakistan reached Pahalgam and killed 26 people..It is our duty to ask questions in the interest of the nation."

Defence minister Rajnath Singh firmly defended the success of Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, asserting that the mission achieved all its objectives without any casualties among Indian soldiers.

"In any exam, results matter, not whether the pencil was broken or the pen lost. Ultimately, results matter," Singh said, responding to opposition criticism.

He urged the opposition to ask the right questions. “Were any of our brave soldiers harmed? The answer is no. Was Operation Sindoor successful? The answer is yes,” he stated.

Earlier, Singh reiterated that India has always sought peace with its neighbours, recalling Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Lahore bus diplomacy. “But our peaceful intentions were mistaken for weakness. We now respond with Balakot,” he said.

Operation Sindoor has been hailed by the government as a major success, with Singh emphasizing that the armed forces had "fully achieved the objectives they had set."

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said India has always aspired for peace with Pakistan, citing the historic Lahore bus journey under Atal Bihari Vajpayee as an example. However, he added that India’s peaceful outreach was misunderstood as weakness.

“We once spoke the language of the Lahore bus journey, but Pakistan did not understand that. We now respond with the Balakot strike,” Singh said while addressing the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor.

He emphasized that successive Indian governments have made efforts to maintain friendly ties with Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. “India wants friendly relations with all, and we have demonstrated this consistently,” Singh said.

Speaking about the recent Operation Sindoor, Singh said the armed forces had “fully achieved the objectives they had set.”

The Defence Minister’s statement comes in the backdrop of heightened discussions in Parliament over national security and India's military preparedness.

"Few members of the Opposition have been asking how many of our aircraft were shot down? I feel their question does not adequately represent our national sentiments. They have not asked us how many enemy aircraft our Armed Forces shot down? If they must ask a question, it should be whether India destroyed terrorist bases, and the answer to that is, yes...If you have a question to ask, ask this: Were any of our brave soldiers harmed in this operation? The answer is, no, none of our soldiers were harmed," said defence minister Rajnath Singh on Operation Sindoor, in Lok Sabha.

Pakistan carried out attack on Indian targets, which was repulsed by S-400 and other air defence systems, Rajnath Singh said in Lok Sabha.

During debate in Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "Soon after Pahalgam attack, our Armed Forces took action and hit with precision the nine terrorist infra sites in which more than 100 terorrists, their trainers and handlers were targeted."

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "It appears that the government does not want a discussion on Operation Sindoor...We are not allowed to speak, and then allegations are levelled at us. We want to take part in the discussion on Operation Sindoor, but you just saw that no opposition members raised placards or entered the Well of the House. Even then, the House was adjourned...Let it start, we are ready."

Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said it was decided by Opposition leaders to start discussions on Operation Sindoor at 12pm today in Lok Sabha, but just 10 minute before discussions could start they (opposition) came up with a new demand asking government to give a commitment first on some other issue. “They are running away from Operation Sindoor debate,” he said.
