Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday emphasized that the Modi government is committed to boosting farm income and shielding farmers from rising international fertilizer prices. Speaking during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, he stated, "Our vision is to enhance farm earnings, and we will spare no effort in achieving this goal. Farmer welfare is the Modi government's guarantee."

In response to SP member Anand Bhadauria's query on farm loan waivers, he said that "several steps are being taken by the Modi government to increase farm income, as well as to increase production, to reduce the cost of production and helping them to sell their produce. Farm loans are increasing, and under Modi (government), income of farmers is continuously increasing."

The Waqf Amendment Bill became a focal point during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in parts of Karnataka on Monday, as worshippers, including Minister Rahim Khan, staged a silent protest against the Centre’s move. In Bidar, Mandya, and Belagavi, believers expressed their dissent by wearing black armbands while offering prayers.

In Bidar, Minister Rahim Khan, who oversees sports and youth empowerment, arrived at the Eidgah Maidan with his followers, all donning black armbands as they participated in the prayers. Similarly, in Mandya, Naheem, the president of the Mandya Urban Development Authority, and his supporters observed the same symbolic protest. The demonstrations remained peaceful, reflecting strong opposition to the proposed amendments to the Waqf law.

AAP will oppose Waqf bill, says Punjab CM Mann

Punjab chief minister and senior AAP leader Bhagwant Mann on Monday vowed to strongly oppose the Waqf (Amendment) Bill introduced by the BJP-led NDA government. Speaking at an Eid event, Mann stated that AAP stands firmly with the Muslim community, which has been vehemently opposing the bill. He emphasized that his party would resist the legislation both in Parliament and the Punjab Assembly to safeguard the interests of Muslims.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to social welfare, Mann assured that every section of society would be protected. Meanwhile, a 655-page report by a 31-member joint parliamentary panel on the bill was submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on January 30, adding to the ongoing debate surrounding the proposed amendments.

Powerful people encroached upon Waqf properties, says Kiren Rijiju

"Who are those who are opposing this bill? There are a few powerful people who have encroached upon the Waqf properties. They are misguiding people. They are saying the bill is unconstitutional. It's everyone's right to criticise things, but criticism must have some substance in it," Rijiju told ANI.

"The request letter sent by the Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council is extremely important for everybody. Many of the organisations across communities are supporting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. We must understand that the Bill is basically in the interest of the poor Muslims, children and women and also to ensure that the properties of the Waqf are managed in a transparent and accountable manner. We ensure the welfare of the common people," he added.
