JAMMU/SRINAGAR: Two militants were today

killed

in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said.

"Two militants have been killed in an encounter in Bandipora," a police official said.

He said acting on specific intelligence input about presence of militants in Hajin village of Bandipora, security forces launched a search operation in the area.

The official said as the forces were conducting the search operation, militants fired upon them leading to an encounter in which two militants have been killed.

Further details of the operation were awaited, the official said, adding that two weapons have been recovered from the encounter site.

He said the identity and group affiliation of the militants was being ascertained.

Meanwhile, a suspected Pakistani national was gunned down by the Border Security Force (BSF) troops in

RS Pura

sector in Jammu and Kashmir, after he crossed the International Border early on Tuesday morning .

After crossing the border, the man took advantage of the cover of fog and reached very close to the Indian fence.

He was immediately challenged by the alert troops and once he did not pay heed to the repeated warning, he was shot down.
