KHUNTI: A massive crowd congregated at Khunti's Birsa Munda Football Stadium on Wednesday to listen to
PM Modi who offered tribute at Birsa Munda's native village of Ulihatu and met the tribal revolutionary's descendants.
Thousands poured in at the tent set up at the stadium for Modi's event while another few thousand occupied the galleries of the newly-built stadium.
Crowds from various parts of the district arrived by bus even while Modi rose to deliver his speech, forcing the authorities to suspend the entry of further visitors.
"Schemes worth Rs 50,000 crore have been launched in Jharkhand. It has become the country's first state with 100% electrification of the railway network," PM Modi added.
Modi took a tour of the Birsa Munda Memorial Park and the Freedom Fighter Museum in Ranchi on Wednesday morning along with chief minister Hemant Soren and governor C P Radhakrishnan before flying to Ulihatu.
"Dharti Aba Birsa Munda is an inspiration for us all. There are other tribal heroes from Jharkhand, such as Sidho-Kanho, Chand Bhairav, Tilka Manjhi, Jatra Tana Bhagat, Phulo Jhano, and others. Unfortunately, their names were lost to history and they did not get their due respect post-Independence. However, we honoured them during Amrit Mahotsava," Modi said.
The PM also recalled his association with Jharkhand. "It was in Jharkhand that we launched the Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme, which benefits the poor," he added.
