On Sunday afternoon, when Maoists set free 294 prisoners, nearly 110 of whom were Naxalites, more than 16 jail personnel were missing from duty.

The Chhattisgarh government on Monday suspended DIG (prisons) P D Verma, while cops arrested Dantewada jailor V S Mankar for facilitating the escape of prisoners. Bastar range IG R K Vij said, "The jailer was arrested after sustained interrogation which suggested his links to some of the escaped inmates."
