JODHPUR: Pink and orange were the colours at Wednesday evening's welcome dinner at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace where Arun and Elizabeth Nayar arrived with about 300 guests.
"I'm wearing a pink sari because I'm from the bride's side," said Julia Verdin, small-time actress and long-time friend of the bride.Verdin and Hurley moved together from London to Hollywood and she has stood by the British model before, during and after her relationship with Hugh Grant.
"I'm so happy Liz has finally found true love. Arun is a great guy," said Verdin at Jodhpur airport. The newly-wed walked out soon after, leading to a virtual stampede at the airport. Dressed in a multi-hued frock, Liz looked every bit the radiant bride. Arun, in an ivory-coloured kurti led the way for his new wife and son Damian, who was slightly frazzled by the popping flashbulbs.

Media thronged the exit gates at the airport almost six hours before the celeb couple were to arrive. And they were not disappointed. Desi and videshi Page 3 people stepped out of especially chartered flights from Delhi and Mumbai. Prince Nikolaos and Mary Donaldson of Greece were one of the first to arrive. "We love the colours of Indian weddings," said the prince.
Added designer Tom Ford, dapper in a black jacket, "They're very much in love." Ford was accompanied by his partner and fashion journalist Richard Buckley. With non-stop partying ever since they landed in India, did Liz and Arun really have any time to catch their breath? "Not a chance," said celeb photographer Evelyn Lauder. "We've been partying till 4 every morning."

Among others who attended the dinner were Elton John's partner David Furnish, who came dressed in all white; auctioneer Bruce Cairnduff , politician Bill Cash's daughter Laetitia Gunn; editor-at-large of the independent newspapers Janet Street-Porter; biotech financier Peter Svennilson with wife Lisa, who revealed they would be wear Suneet Verma and Rohit Bal outfits on the big day.
The desi celeb brigade comprised Gautam and Nawaz Singhania, Jeh, Maureen and Ness Wadia, NY-based yoga expert Juhi Singh, fashion designer Aarti Surendranath with industrialist husband Kailash, Tony and Hasina Jethmalani, Anju and Farhad Taraporewala, Adi and Parmeshwar Godrej.
Security is extremely tight with a special team having flown in from London. "We were here in January for a recce. Everything's going fine," said a security officer.
