MUMBAI: Big or small, almost every leader has dipped his fingers into the sticky political conundrum be it the Shah Rukh Khan-Shiv Sena spat, the Marathi question or the presence of North Indians in the city. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said on Wednesday that his party had no plans to obstruct Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mumbai in the wake of the latter’s recent statement on north Indians’ right to earn a livelihood in Mumbai.

But political observers said the Sena may hold demonstrations against Gandhi when he visits the city on Friday.
On Shah Rukh Khan, Thackeray said, “Actors should not speak on political issues. It’s shameful that Union home minister P Chidambaram should talk of providing security to Pakistani cricketers. I wonder if he is India’s home minister or Pakistan’s.’’ The SRK controversy has highlighted the fault lines in the Saffron alliance, with the BJP stating its opposition to the militant methods adopted by its ally against the actor. State BJP leader Eknath Khadse advised the Sena to “follow the law of the land’’.
