Once a fixture of the capital’s social calendar during Ramzan, the tradition has few takers

The month of Ramzan means abstinence and prayer for rozedars but in Delhi’s political calendar, the month-long period of fasting was significant for who you feasted with. Like the tables overflowing with kababs, haleem and biryani, iftars were politically loaded affairs.

Old-time journalists don’t just remember starving before the event to do justice to the delicious food, but also the political tidbits that they could pick up. For instance, which outreach signalled new alliances and warmth in ties and who was being cold-shouldered.
