NASIK: A senior official of the Nasik Road Central Jail on Friday said there was no prevalence of homosexual activities among the inmates but promised action if such acts are found to be true in the prison. Reacting sharply to sting operation by a private news channel about homosexual activities among prisoners, Jail Superintendent Ashok Rane said that no such incidents had been reported in the high security complex.
He, however, said that strict action will be taken against those found guilty. Rane claimed he has not seen the full tape of sting operation, aired on Thursday night, but said he will soon submit a report to his seniors on the issue. He admitted that a few prisoners were HIV positive, but clarified that they had not contracted the virus during their stay in the jail located in North Maharashtra. These prisoners are getting proper treatment as per directives of Mumbai's government-run J J Hospital, the jail official said. The HIV-positive prisoners are, however, not kept in separate cells, he said.
