Nitish Kumar seeks special status for poor states

NEW DELHI: At the NDA dinner hosted by BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday, allies raised several issues that the new government could focus on with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar seeking special status for backward states and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray flagging the acute water shortage in Maharashtra as a key concern.

The leaders lauded PM Modi’s leadership and cheered the prospects of the NDA returning to power with a thumping win as projected by the Exit polls.

Leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal raised about issues of farmers and the agriculture sector. “All partners were allowed to share their views in the NDA meeting and all of them appreciated that the government took decisions keeping public good in mind rather than looking at everything from how it will bring electoral gains,” said a leader.

Sources said Nitish suggested that the Centre has to take care of the needs of backward states to push their growth. Some of the central ministries are already preparing the plans that can be rolled out in the shortest possible time, sources said.
